Julie Waddell, class of 2008, will have fond memories of commencement long after the ceremony has concluded. There are two reasons for this. First, she was selected as the student speaker to address her fellow graduates. Second, Waddell was selected by the college president to receive the President’s Academic Excellence Award.
Her commencement speech encouraged graduates to be proud of their accomplishments and to take advantage of opportunities that await them.
Waddell was selected as the commencement student speaker because of her 4.0 G.P.A., overall academic achievements, high level of involvement at Carroll, and commitment to service.
The secondary education major was also selected by College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo to receive the President’s Award for Academic Excellence. This award honors one student whose college record exemplifies the essence of higher education.
Waddell’s many organizational affiliations include participant in the Belize Service Learning Project last summer; Phi Theta Kappa; Psi Beta; Green Team student organization; and Spanish Club. She also served as student orientation leader and successfully completed the Leadership Challenge program.
Waddell plans to pursue an English for Speakers of Other Languages certification within Secondary Education.
