President’s Column

This summer is a time of change at the college, which brings a blend of enthusiasm and challenges. As I begin as President, I am thrilled to be leading a vibrant, learning-centered college which has always enjoyed a fine reputation among other institutions of higher education in the state.

I am pleased to welcome Dr. Janet Ohlemacher to the Executive Team as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs.

I have observed that, along with the changes taking place this summer, we have not slowed our continual growth in quality instruction and our progress in planning and programming. The stories in this issue illustrate the strong sense of purpose and progress that permeates our campus and its employees.

The story on Living Classrooms, a project of our Education Department, shows how innovation and creativity can result in success for students. By exposing Education students to in-school experiences, our faculty make classroom learning come alive like never before. I want to especially thank our teacher education faculty for their dedication to grooming the teachers of the future.

The story on i-Serve describes how the Student Life office encourages service in the community, from which students learn in interesting and engaging ways. Students commit to time outside the classroom, while juggling multiple responsibilities to make life better for others. Service learning is among the most impactful of all learning experiences that students enjoy during their time at Carroll.

Carroll’s Math Team performed well in a tournament and you can read more about this on page three.

In addition, our memories of Commencement 2014 are strong and the story on page four describes how highly our graduates rate the college.

Finally, I want to express how excited I am to be serving as President and I look forward to working with our faculty and staff as we move our college forward. I know you will continue to be passionate and innovative in your work and I expect great things from our students as they complete their programs, and transfer or enter the workplace. I look forward to hearing your ideas and receiving feedback as the year progresses. Thank you for your support and your always exceptional commitment to our students.

Dr. Faye Pappalardo
President
