President Announces Strategic Initiatives for Next Two Years

College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo has identified ten priority initiatives to guide college planning and activities over the next two fiscal years. These Presidential Strategic Initiatives comprise the goals in the college’s Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2007 and 2008, adopted by the Planning Advisory Council on September 11, 2006. The initiatives may be cited as justification for budget requests during development of the college’s FY2008 operating budget.

The Strategic Initiatives for FY2007 and FY2008 address the following ten priorities of the college: cultural, economic, and social programs to enhance the college and Carroll County; new academic programs in biotechnology, engineering, and environmental science; feasibility studies for new programs in occupational therapy and dental hygiene; efforts to improve student achievement; increasing enrollment at the Sykesville Center; launching of the Hill Scholars Honors Program; promoting global awareness and multicultural education; optimizing the use of technology; furtherance of the Partners Major Gifts Campaign; and implementing plans leading to the construction of the college’s next instructional building. The wording of each initiative, and a listing of the coordinators and reporters assigned to each, can be found on page two.

“It is my hope that these initiatives empower our entire college community to embrace the challenge of enhancing the teaching and learning process for our students and meeting the growing needs of Carroll County,” said college president Dr. Faye Pappalardo.

The president announces the college’s Strategic Initiatives in June, following endorsement by the Board of Trustees. The initiatives guide area planning processes that occur over the summer months. In August, the Executive Team appoints coordinators for each Strategic Initiative. After area planning processes are completed, the vice presidents propose tasks to help accomplish the purposes of each initiative. The initiatives and the supporting tasks are approved by the Planning Advisory Council in September. Members of the Council may propose other task statements or amendments to proposed tasks at this time. During the fall, the coordinators review the task statements in the college’s Strategic Plan supporting their initiative to ensure that they will, collectively, achieve the initiative.

The Planning Advisory Council appoints Strategic Plan Reporters in September. In May, the Strategic Plan Reporters present written status reports on their assigned initiatives to the Planning Advisory Council. These status reports are included in the Annual Report of the Planning Advisory Council. This report is distributed to the Board of Trustees and all full-time employees of the college, and is posted to the college intranet for access by all college employees.
