Alumni Profile:
Della D’Nicuola

Forty-four-year-old Della D'Nicuola graduated from Carroll Community College in May, 2006. Her love for education and her passion for nursing as a profession were inspired by her experience at Carroll. Today, she is employed in health care, pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and hopes to obtain a master's degree.

"I chose Nursing because I have always had a passion for wanting to help others and to make a difference in some way, even if it is a small one," said D'Nicuola. "Although I have worked in health care for almost 20 years, I felt nursing would 'open more doors' toward helping me reach this personal goal."
"The faculty at Carroll was very knowledgeable in their respective fields," she said. "I chose Carroll for several reasons. It was convenient and only ten miles from my home. The size was smaller than a university campus and the cost was definitely more affordable than a larger school."

D'Nicuola is currently attending the University of Maryland in Baltimore. "I will complete my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in the summer of 2010 and I hope to complete my Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in the spring of 2013. I also have a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and two associate degrees—Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology, as well as in Nursing," she said.

D'Nicuola works as a communicable disease (CD) supervisor for the Carroll County Health Department. "My duties include CD outbreaks, surveillance, investigations, epidemiology reporting, tuberculosis coordination and consultation, adult immunizations, rabies prophylaxis and consultation, mass vaccination clinic coordinator, CD education/ prevention, and HIV/STD testing."

"Carroll has helped me both professionally and academically. It has given me a strong nursing foundation to build upon," said D'Nicuola.
