College Continues Preparations for Reaccreditation

Evaluation Team to Visit April 10–13, 2011

Carroll Community College has for the past year been conducting a process of self-study in preparation for reaccreditation that will culminate in a team visit in 2011 by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The work continues as a college steering committee and work groups prepare a draft self-study document.

Accreditation is the process of peer review that the educational community has adopted for its self-regulation. MSCHE examines the entire institution and how it meets a series of 14 standards.

"I look forward to working with the experienced Middle States team, which will be both effective and efficient in evaluating the college," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.

Institutions must have regional or national accreditation for students to be eligible for federal grants through the Student Assistance Programs in Title IV of the Higher Education Act.

The college steering committee and work groups are reviewing the college mission, goals, and
objectives, and documenting how the college is
achieving them.

"I want to extend my appreciation and gratitude to college faculty and staff work group members for their hard work," said Steering Committee Co-chair Robert Brown.
"I am impressed with the caliber of effort of the individuals on our work groups," said Steering Committee Co-chair Dr. Michael Kiphart.

On October 21, 2010, Dr. Anna Weitz, president of Reading Area Community College, and chair of the MSCHE visiting team, will come to the college for a preliminary meeting. The official team visit from MSCHE will take place from April 10 through 13, 2011.
