The spring semester is well underway at Carroll Community College, and I extend my best wishes for a productive and successful term.

Success at Carroll is a quality which so many of our programs and initiatives exemplify. Student, faculty and staff success takes many forms, including the following examples.

Students demonstrate success by persisting and completing their studies. Programs are successful by preparing students for the workplace of the 21st century or for further study. The college thrives by welcoming campus visitors who say that Carroll is part of the fabric of the community. Our reputation shines when Carroll faculty and staff receive awards for innovation and best practices.

The stories in this issue of Today illustrate many types of successful outcomes at Carroll.

The story on Roger Voter describes how a graduate can make a difference by applying the lessons learned in college: service to others, willingness to take risks, and a passion for helping those less fortunate.

The story on our new Aging Studies program demonstrates how the college identifies areas of employment growth and prepares students to be successful in their transition to the workforce or into transfer studies.

This issue tells the story of Carroll's student STEM Club, which promotes the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Students in the club won an award from the Maryland-D.C. Campus Compact for their service-learning activities which inspire middle and high school students to take an interest in STEM-related careers.

The college's Child Development Center's Lab School is a true example of innovation. Carroll students who study early childhood education and community professionals benefit equally from observing the behaviors of young children to better understand their needs.

In closing, I wish to thank our fine students, faculty and staff for all that they do to ensure the success of the college. I truly appreciate the dedication that they demonstrate each and every day. I also want to thank the readers of Today for their support.
