Compass 2025

While the mission and mission-based institutional goals describe the lawful and fundamental purposes of the college, institutional planning and advancement require a future vision of the college and a roadmap to get there, specifying the institution’s priorities over a multi-year planning horizon. The multi-year plan is needed to accommodate major projects that will take more than one year to complete, and to allow for development of funding strategies to support their accomplishment.

Since its independence from Catonsville in 1993, the College has had seven multi-year strategic plans, ranging in length from three to seven years. The current plan, Compass 2020, was approved in June 2015. The Strategic Priorities set a direction for the College, expressing in broad terms its five-year goals. Specific Strategic Initiatives, updated each year, are developed under each Strategic Priority to move the College forward.

Last fall, the President appointed a committee to develop recommendations for a new Vision Statement and set of Strategic Priorities to guide the college over the next five years. The committee reviewed environmental scanning data and solicited ideas from on and off campus, including student government, the College Senate, and input from program Advisory Boards. The committee shared its first draft with the Planning Advisory Council on October 29, 2019.

The College’s draft Compass 2025 Vision and Strategic Priorities were discussed extensively at retreats of the Executive Team and Board of Trustees in January 2019. A revised draft was reviewed and endorsed by the Planning Advisory Council on March 4, 2019. The President presented the Compass 2025 Vision and Strategic Priorities for approval by the Board of Trustees at their monthly meeting on March 20, 2019. The Board voted unanimously to approve Compass 2025.
