Effective July 1, 2010, Barbara Charnock became chair of the Board of Trustees of Carroll Community College.
Charnock has served on the Board since its inception in 1993, when she was elected its first chair. Prior to establishment of the first Board of Trustees, she served on advisory committees to explore and plan for introduction of a community college in the county. Charnock succeeds Barbara Biller, who completed her two-year term as chair. Board member Michael Mason will serve as vice-chair.
"I am excited and honored to become chair at a time when the college is facing an exciting and challenging future," said Charnock. "I will work with the Board to fulfill the mission of the college in serving the community so the Board may be an agent of progress. Carroll Community College provides academic excellence to students and enhances economic development through our work with businesses and other organizations. I believe that both these goals are strengths of the community college."
"I am pleased to work with Barbara in her new capacity," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo. "Barbara is truly an asset to the Board of Trustees and to the college. She brings a comprehensive understanding of community colleges and an unwavering support of our mission to her new position."
Charnock taught middle school in Baltimore County for 30 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Education from Towson University. Charnock is a resident of Eldersburg, Md.
