We have much to celebrate this summer as we ready ourselves for the fall semester.

In June, Michael L. Mason was elected the new chair of the college's Board of Trustees. I wish to extend my personal congratulations to Mr. Mason, and look forward to a fruitful and productive working relationship. David O'Callaghan was elected vice chair at the June meeting. Mr. O'Callaghan's insight and experience continue to be a genuine asset to our college. I want to thank Mrs. Barbara Charnock for her dedicated service as past-chair. Mrs. Charnock and our board have been instrumental in moving the college forward.

Carroll Community College's fine reputation extends beyond the county, as two articles in this issue demonstrate: our nursing faculty's award-winning poster presentation at a national conference in Chicago, and an international documentary film with footage of Carroll faculty and students. The documentary is about Holocaust survivor Leo Bretholz and includes scenes of his visits with students in Tom Hockstra's history class.

I continue to be inspired by our faculty and staff members, and the excellence they demonstrate as they carry out their daily work responsibilities. I am pleased that Carroll has such a fine reputation, both inside and outside Carroll County.

I would like to close with sincere wishes for a productive and successful fall semester. Let us remember that the success of our students comes first. I believe that we make a difference every day in the lives of learners of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life.

President
