Trustees Approve College Values Statement

While the mission and mission-based institutional goals describe the lawful and fundamental purposes of the College, they do not specify the values under which the College operates. A Values Statement asserts the underlying philosophy, principles, and beliefs providing the moral center anchoring college operations. Since its independence from Catonsville in 1993, the College had had only one, initial Statement of Values. With the College’s upcoming Self-Study for Reaccreditation, Dr. Ball decided it was time to update the College’s Values Statement.

The President began the process with the Board of Trustees, at their January 2019 Retreat. The Executive Team developed a draft following this input from the Board, and the draft was circulated for comment. After the Planning Advisory Council and others made suggestions, a revised draft was emailed college-wide so all employees could comment.

The College’s final draft Values Statement was reviewed and amended at the April 8, 2019 meeting of the Planning Advisory Council. The revised proposal was unanimously endorsed by the Planning Advisory Council and forwarded to Dr. Ball. The President presented the proposed Values Statement for approval by the Board of Trustees and they unanimously approved it on April 17, 2019.
