College, Villa Julie Sign Transfer Agreements in Nursing and Forensic Studies

On Wednesday, November 16 representatives from Carroll and Villa Julie College signed two new transfer agreements.

The first allows for seamless transfer of credits from Carroll’s associate degree in Nursing to Villa Julie’s bachelor’s degree in Nursing. The second agreement provides for credit transfer from Carroll’s associate degree in Forensic Studies directly into the third year of Villa Julie’s five-year master’s degree in Forensic Studies.

“I am enthusiastic about this agreement because it will be most helpful to our nursing and criminal justice students,” said Dr. Faye Pappalardo, president of Carroll Community College. “I wish to extend a special thank you to everyone who played a part in making this articulation agreement a reality.”

“We are excited about this unique partnership with Carroll Community College,” said Villa Julie President Kevin J. Manning. “This agreement continues our commitment to make a college education more accessible to students interested in making a difference in their community.”

“We look forward to welcoming students interested in nursing, one of our most successful programs, and forensic science, one of our newest programs,” said Paul D. Lack, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean at Villa Julie. “We continue to find ways to make it easier for community college students to continue their education.”

Nancy Perry, director of Carroll’s nursing program, said “This new agreement is ideal, since we encourage students to pursue the bachelor’s degree to advance their careers. Now the process is simpler. The fact that some VJC classes will be offered here on campus makes the program very attractive, especially to students who work.”

“I am thrilled to cooperate with Villa Julie’s excellent program, which builds on the foundation Carroll students receive,” said Judy Coen, chairperson, Mathematics, Sciences, Health and Wellness at Carroll.

“In Maryland, nursing has a unique career ladder that permits associate degree RNs to complete an additional year at the community college before transferring for the final year of courses,” said Coen. “I am particularly pleased with Villa Julie’s intent to offer many courses in Westminster, and with the small class size and personal service they offer.”

“Villa Julie is one of a select few institutions in this area that offers a graduate degree in Forensic Science, which is the study of how science applies to law,” said Steven Geppi, chairperson, Social Sciences and Legal Studies at Carroll. “Now, students will know exactly which courses to take while enjoying the convenience and affordability of Carroll, combined with the assurance that their credits will transfer to Villa Julie.”
