India Remembered, an installation of art and artifact, opened to the public on Sunday, October 17. The exhibits in the Gallery in the Scott Center, the Babylon Great Hall, and the Langdon Gallery will be on display through Friday, December 3, 2010. An opening reception and dance performance were held Sunday, October 17th. The Jayamangala Dance Company performed in the Theater in the Scott Center that afternoon.
Conceived by curator and Indofile Maggie Ball, India Remembered , an exhibit of memory and fantasy, delights the senses and evokes feelings of longing for times and places of transcendent beauty. It is a translation of impressions inspired by many journeys to India, including a faculty sabbatical. It is an homage to the spirit of a country possessed of extraordinary beauty, esoteric philosophy, and compelling contradiction. From back roads and bazaars, the collection of art, decorative craft, textiles, and jewelry merge to create a magical and sacred ambience that inspires.
Related events held during the fall semester included a series of Continuing Education classes related to Indian culture, cuisine, and art.
