College Awarded Early Childhood Education Grant

The Maryland State Department of Education has awarded a $99,215 grant from the state’s Child Care Development Fund to Carroll Community College. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to credentialed child care providers to pursue a college degree in early childhood education, child development, family studies or related disciplines.

The grant has been awarded to the college annually since 2008 to enable the Early Childhood Education program to serve students who are working professionals and who need financial assistance in order to enroll in the program. The total grant amount since the first award in 2008 is $514,655.

Twenty-four graduates have benefitted from the program. Another five students are expected to graduate this semester, and 20 new students are set to begin the program in the fall.
