Career Coach Offers Free, Localized, Current Job Information Online

People in Carroll County and the surrounding region who are looking for a new career now have a new resource. The college offers access from its homepage (www.carrollcc.edu) to Career Coach, a comprehensive online career planning tool. Career Coach was designed to help people find a rewarding career by providing the most current local data on wages, employment, job postings, and associated education and training. Career Coach is different from other career planning tools in that it provides employment information, including current job openings, specific to a local area in conjunction with the educational programs offered at the local community college. Users can identify potential careers and immediately learn local job market conditions and the educational programs available to prepare for those jobs.

Career Coach is a product of Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc., known for their expertise in employment information and now a Careerbuilder.com company. The combination of localized employment demand data, current job postings, and associated local education and training opportunities make Career Coach a powerful tool for career changers and job seekers in the Carroll County region.

To access Career Coach, go to the Carroll Community College website carrollcc.edu. On the homepage, click on the icon for Career Coach. You start your career exploration in one of two ways. If you have an idea of the career areas you might be interested in, you may search careers or training programs by typing in a keyword or two. Alternatively, you can browse through a listing of all careers and programs in the Career Coach database. If you really have no idea what careers you might want to consider, browsing the list can be helpful as you will find a brief description of the jobs, the wages you can expect, the local job outlook, and the education required. It is a good idea to select careers that fit your interests and personality, so a trip to the community college’s Career Development Center for a personal interest inventory might be the best place to start.

Once you’ve identified a career or occupation to explore further, use Career Coach to learn the entry, median, and upper-level wages for specific jobs, the number of people employed in your area, projected annual job openings, and the number of workers in that occupation nearing retirement age. Scrolling down, you learn the credit and noncredit programs offered by Carroll Community College that can train you for these jobs. Current job postings from local employers are also shown.

Career Coach offers the ability to create your own account, allowing you to bookmark specific careers, jobs, and training programs. Users can also create their own resume in Career Coach using an easy step-by-step guide.
