Summer!Kids@Carroll Celebrates 10th Anniversary

If repeat participation is the hallmark of a successful program, then Summer!Kids@Carroll and Summer!Teen College are a resounding success. Celebrating ten years of weekly summer enrichment classes, Carroll Community College has earned a loyal following of campers and their parents.

Remarkable growth has marked the past decade. Ten years ago, there was a small collection of classes offered each week. Today, youth ranging from ages three to 15 may choose from over 150 half-day and full-day enrichment programs conducted in a camp-like environment. Topics have expanded from predominantly science camps in the beginning to a wide variety of classes on careers, cooking, technology, mathematics, movement, reading, history, theatre, and more.

“The program has evolved over the years. In 2004, there were less than 100 enrollments and in 2013, this grew to over 1,800. We started working with volunteer assistants in 2007 and in 2012, we launched Summer!Teen College,” said Sally Long, senior director, lifelong learning & program support systems. “This summer will be filled with special celebrations for our 10th anniversary.”

“I am pleased that our summer enrichment programs for youth have grown and expanded so well,” said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo. “I sincerely believe that young people benefit greatly from a structured, well-designed summer experience which challenges them to be active all summer long.”

Classes begin on June 23 and end August 8, 2014. For a complete listing of 2014 Summer!Kids@Carroll and Summer!Teen College camps go to carrollcc.edu/summerkids or call 410-386-8100 to have a schedule mailed to you.
