College Foundation Donation Mitigates Student Tuition Increase

On March 19, 2015 the Carroll Community College Foundation voted to provide $166,000 to Carroll Community College to help partially ease the impact of the planned tuition increase in the 2015-16 academic year. The larger than anticipated tuition increase was necessary to respond to proposed reductions in funding from the state of Maryland.

Tuition was projected to increase by $8 per credit hour beginning with the summer 2015 term. Due to the generosity of donors in support of the college and its students, tuition is expected to go up $6 per credit, to $124. Credit students who register for classes in the upcoming academic year will automatically be billed the reduced tuition amount.

Dr. James D. Ball, president of Carroll Community College, announced the new proposed tuition rate during the college’s budget briefing to the Board of Carroll County Commissioners in Westminster on March 26, 2015. “The college is fortunate to have such a positive and responsive partnership with our Foundation Board, which has a history of generously supporting students and the college in our endeavors to deliver the highest quality programs possible,” said Dr. Ball.

“The Carroll Community College Foundation is pleased to help limit the proposed tuition increase. The Foundation recognizes that students juggle many academic, professional and personal responsibilities. Tuition affordability is very important. We are happy to help reduce the cost of tuition to make it more affordable to all of our students. We are proud to partner with the college and with its students to make the college dream a reality,” said Carroll Community College Foundation Board of Directors President Kelly Hill.

“The mission of the Carroll Community College Foundation is to develop financial resources that support the educational needs of all students. We are very grateful for the generosity of a giving and caring community that allows us to make a difference in the lives of our students,” said Executive Director of the Foundation Steve Wantz.
