Student Lands a Job While Pursuing Cybersecurity Degree

Thirty-one-year old Daniel Hooper is currently enrolled at Carroll as a Cybersecurity major and is already working in the field. Carroll helped him to establish the contacts necessary to get a job with Koniag Technology Solutions, which is a government contractor.

The college’s Cybersecurity navigator, Marlene Titus, assists students to make connections with employers looking for interns and who are seeking to hire. Meanwhile, Hooper continues to attend classes in the evenings to complete his degree.

Hooper credits Carroll faculty with going out of their way to make sure the class material is understood. He said the refresher courses are effective and that new material is challenging.

“The amount of hands-on experience with equipment is very helpful. The equipment is real-world hardware, not just simulation.” he said. “The lab is wonderful.”

Hooper plans to transfer to UMUC or Towson after completing his studies at Carroll.

“Carroll is extremely affordable,” said Hooper. “At Carroll, I have received good grades, learned to become competent in the field and will have my work validated with a credential.”
