President Announces Priority Initiatives for Next Two Years
Dr. Faye Pappalardo

College president Dr. Faye Pappalardo has identified ten priority initiatives to guide college planning and activities over the next two fiscal years. These presidential initiatives comprise the goals of the college’s Strategic Plan. The initiatives may be cited as justification for budget requests during development of the college’s FY2009 operating budget.

Priority initiatives for the next two years address the following areas: community partnerships, assessment of academic and student affairs, general education, student achievement, health and wellness, county business development, global awareness, technology, the Partners fundraising campaign, and construction of Instructional Building Four. The initiatives are listed below.

The president announces the college’s Strategic Initiatives in June, following endorsement by the Board of Trustees. The initiatives guide area planning processes that occur over the summer. In August, the Executive Team appoints coordinators for each initiative. After area planning processes are completed, the vice presidents propose tasks to help accomplish the purposes of each initiative. The initiatives and their supporting tasks are endorsed by the Planning Advisory Council in September. During the fall, the coordinators review the task statements in the college’s Strategic Plan supporting their assigned initiative to ensure that they will, collectively, achieve the initiative.

The Planning Advisory Council appoints Strategic Plan Reporters in September. In May, the Strategic Plan Reporters present oral and written status reports on their assigned initiatives to the Planning Advisory Council. These reports highlight the major accomplishments of the past year and make recommendations for the coming year. The reports are included in the Annual Report of the Planning Advisory Council shared with the Board of Trustees and campus community.
