As I reflect on the past academic year, I note with great pride the outstanding accomplishments of our students and dedicated faculty, staff, and administration.

College partnerships blossomed. Joint initiatives with the Carroll County Public Schools to encourage student interest in higher education were forged. The college successfully implemented the Adult Education Program for students seeking help with G.E.D. preparation or help learning the English language.

New industry and community groups were convened to assist with new programming strategies. The college expanded its partnerships with the Carroll County Department of Economic Development and the Small Business Development Center.

This was the planning year for the college’s new Miller Entrepreneurial Institute. It builds on the success of the college’s Miller Small Business Resource Center, with a broader scope of services and a new name. Pilot programs were created for the official future launch of the Institute.

During the past year, we celebrated several milestones which included groundbreaking for a new 80,000-square-foot building that will house labs, classrooms, conference rooms, and offices. In addition a new Child Development Center, a student activities area, and a full- service cafeteria will be housed there. Construction is expected to be completed by the fall 2009 semester.

The College Foundation met its goal of $4 million raised for the Partners Campaign. I am so pleased that 97 percent of our college employees contributed to the campaign, raising a total of $101,000. College faculty, staff, and students worked with the campaign leadership and the Foundation Board to plan and host a successful closing event on April 18. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported this campaign so generously.

I look forward to the coming academic year with much anticipation. I am confident Carroll Community College will continue to realize accomplishments that create a learning environment that will serve to benefit our students and our community.
