Troy Pfister

"Carroll Community College gave me a fresh start," explained Troy Pfister. "After high school I took a break so that I could try to figure out what to do with my life. When I came to Carroll I was still puzzled, but one of my professors suggested the teacher education program after I told her I'd like to make a difference in peoples' lives. So, I began working toward the AAT degree."

Troy, who served a year as president of the Student Government Organization, said "Being president gave me a sense of community and boosted my self-confidence. I'm pleased with what I was able to accomplish—I was able to balance going to school, serving in the SGO, and working full-time and had a decent social life at the same time. I never saw myself as joining extracurricular activities, but once I joined SGO, the challenges it presented and the knowledge that I was handling them gave me a great sense of achievement. I participated in Student Advocacy Day for two years in a row. I liked the idea that my voice was being heard and I'd like to think that all the Carroll students who went to Annapolis had at least a small part in the approval of funds for our Allied Health and Nursing Building."
