Welcome to a new semester at Carroll Community College. As we enter the spring semester this February, I am filled with anticipation about the great things I can expect from students, faculty, and staff at this college. I wish you well in all of your endeavors this year.

The advent of the spring semester brings with it several highlights. The 14th Annual Random House Book Fair begins with activities on Friday, March 4, 2011 and continues on Saturday, March 5, 2011. Random House deserves special acknowledgement for all they do to make the day a success. I also want to thank all of our other sponsors and volunteers for the important roles they play in the Book Fair.

The visit from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education for our reaccreditation will take place April 10 through 13, 2011. Dr. Anna Weitz, chair of the visiting team, made a preliminary visit to the college in October. She offered a positive first assessment of the college and looked forward to leading her team's visit in April.

I want to send a special thank you to the steering committee and to all of the faculty and staff who worked so diligently to prepare the self-study document, which provides comprehensive evidence of the college's adherence to the Middle States standards of excellence. I am proud to work with so many fine and talented colleagues who wholeheartedly implement our mission and goals.

Commencement will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 3 p.m. This is the denouement for all of the hard work and dedication our students demonstrate throughout the year. I look forward to presiding over this wonderful recognition of the graduation of our fine students.

Again, faculty, staff, and students have my full support as they embark on a new semester which is full of challenges, joys, and maybe even a few surprises.
