Iwant to share my sincerest gratitude to those who work and study at Carroll for making this college the jewel of Carroll County, as one of our Commissioners phrased it several years ago.

May was an especially busy month at Carroll, culminating in the college's 17th Commencement.

This issue of Today features many aspects of Commencement and includes stories about graduating students and alumni. Our Commencement speaker H. Clay Whitlow, executive director of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, inspired us with his address. His biography is included in this issue.

Commencement holds a special place in my heart because it is the denouement of much hard work and sacrifice on the part of our students. I frequently tell them that there are many things that can be taken away from them in life when hardships and challenges unexpectedly arise. However, no one can take away the education that is earned. A degree from Carroll is something a graduate will have forever. It will open doors to opportunity throughout one's lifetime and can be the bridge to a rewarding future.

I want our graduates to know that Carroll will always be a resource for them.

The faculty, staff, and administration continue to be exceedingly proud of our alumni. Congratulations to the Class of 2010. I personally extend my best wishes to each and every graduate. I wish you every joy and blessing.
