Commencement is the pinnacle accomplishment along the higher education journey. It was with great pride that I presided over Carroll’s 23rd Commencement exercises on May 25 at McDaniel College. Approximately 200 graduates proudly crossed the stage, receiving hoots and applause of congratulations from relatives, friends and the Carroll Community College family.

Some students graduated with honors and awards of distinction, punctuating their glorious day. Special recognition ceremonies, such as the Nursing pinning, also served to spotlight the achievements of our students.

In terms of impact, when surveyed at the time they applied for graduation, 46 percent of the Class of 2016 said they planned to transfer to a four-year college or university within the next year as a full-time student. Another 16 percent planned to transfer as a part-time student. Twenty-eight percent expected to be employed in work related to their Carroll major directly following graduation.

This issue of Today offers various perspectives on the Commencement experience. This celebration is that for which all of us at Carroll Community College work so hard. We salute our students and proudly celebrate their accomplishment of a major educational milestone. With time, they will come to fully understand the transformational impact of their personal investment in higher education.
