Two Carroll Students Named to All-Maryland Academic First Team

Carroll Community College students Mark Shusterman and Leigh Swistock were honored at the All Maryland Academic Team dinner on May 4, 2016 at the Turf Valley Inn in Ellicott City, Md. Each Maryland community college was represented by two or more students with exceptional academic and community service records. Shusterman and Swistock, who graduated this May, were selected for the first team, a prestigious recognition.

Shusterman is a Finance major at Carroll with a 3.75 G.P.A. He is president of Psi Beta; vice president of scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa; student representative for Advocacy Day; recipient of the L. Roland Sturm Scholar award; co-founder and vice president of the Investment Club; and a dean’s list member in 2014-2015. He plans to transfer to Temple University to earn a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in sports management.

Swistock is an Arts and Sciences major with an interest in hospitality management. She is president of the Campus Activities Board; vice president of leadership for Phi Theta Kappa; a Hill Scholar honors student; tour guide and student ambassador; member of Psi Beta; member, Advanced Leadership Challenge; and student employee in the Career Development Center. She has also been selected a New Century Scholar by Phi Theta Kappa and a Guistwhite award recipient.

Swistock has been accepted to the University of Central Florida.
