Commencement is the high point of the academic year. I was exceedingly pleased to preside over and witness the culmination of years of hard work by our graduates to earn a credential of higher learning.

I want to express my great appreciation to this year’s Commencement Speaker, Trustee Barbara Charnock. Mrs. Charnock delivered an inspiring address to our graduates, and her passion for education and this college was apparent. I wish her well as her 33-years of dedicated service to the college comes to an end this month.

This issue includes several stories about our successful students. As you read about Danielle Burnham, Olivia Hare, and Katelyn Skelton you will again be reminded of why being professional educators is such a rewarding career.

The stories about the Hackathon and Capture the Flag competitions illustrate how Carroll students excel in the STEM field and how our community supports healthy competition for our budding scientists, technology masters, engineers and mathematicians.

It was a pleasure to host Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and his team for a cabinet meeting. It gave the public and our students an opportunity to see state government up close.

Thank you all for a productive and fruitful spring semester. I wish you an enjoyable summer season.
