Each year at Commencement, College President Dr. James D. Ball awards the President’s Academic Excellence Award to a graduate.
Elementary Education major Katelyn Skelton received the award at this year’s Commencement ceremony.
Skelton was selected in a competitive process in which faculty nominate student candidates who meet criteria for the award. Those criteria include a cumulative 4.0 grade point average and at least 45 credits completed at Carroll. In addition to academic achievement, the award recognizes dedication to community service and co-curricular activities.
“I am proud to present Katelyn with the President’s Academic Excellence Award,” said Ball. “Her academic and co-curricular accomplishments are impressive. I believe that one day, whether in the classroom as a teacher or a volunteer out in the community, Katelyn will make a difference in the world because of all that she has already achieved. I look forward to great things ahead from Katelyn.”
“I feel thrilled to receive this award,” said Skelton. “My Carroll experience provided me with many opportunities, including as a student worker and a participant in student activities. I had the chance to become a leader in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Campus Activities Board. I have also enjoyed being a part of the Hill Scholar Honors Program.
“The experiences I gained at Carroll helped me to prepare for my career as a future teacher,” said Skelton. “I have learned and developed new knowledge, techniques and skills that will continue on throughout my education and in the classroom as a teacher.”
