If I were to select a theme for the stories in this issue of Today, it would be "moving forward." As we embark on the start of a new semester this fall, it is evident that the future is promising at Carroll Community College. This is due to the exciting progress the college has made in several areas.

First and foremost, the college has received official notification from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) that Carroll accreditation has been reaffirmed. MSCHE is the accrediting body for two-and-four-year colleges which evaluates institutions of higher education in the region for reaccreditation every ten years.

The Middle States visiting team also gave several commendations to Carroll for its outstanding work. This positive reaffirmation of accreditation is indeed wonderful news. I would like to express my deep appreciation for the fine work that our college faculty and staff do every day.

Another example of moving forward is the groundbreaking for the new Mount Airy College Center for Health Care Education. The ceremony was held July 25 with federal elected officials joining Carroll, Howard, and Frederick community colleges to officially break ground for the facility. I was pleased to have Senators Mikulski and Cardin here in Carroll County for the ceremony, among other officials.

The three community colleges are building on an existing academic agreement to enhance student access to health-related programs. The partnership will allow the institutions to offer much-needed programs by jointly leveraging multiple resources. The center is expected to open in the fall of 2012.

The hard work and dedication of our fine faculty and staff enables Carroll to move forward with purpose and direction. Your passion for the mission and vision of this college shines through in everything you do. Thank you for your role in the progress of our college.
