Towson Most Popular, But Majority of Transfers Go Elsewhere

Three-fifths of the college's credit students report that a primary goal in attending Carroll is to transfer to a four-year college or university. Four years after beginning college, how many have transferred? Of the 478 degree-seeking students who entered Carroll as first-time-any-college students in fall 2005, 195 or 41 percent had transferred to a baccalaureate institution on or before the 2009 fall term.

Over the past five years, Carroll students have transferred to over 300 different institutions. Three-fifths of the college's students who transfer to four-year institutions typically attend public colleges and universities in Maryland. Fifteen percent of the transfers who began college at Carroll in fall 2005 had enrolled at Maryland private colleges and universities within four years. A fourth had transferred to baccalaureate institutions outside of Maryland.

Towson University has been the most popular transfer destination for Carroll students. Of all the students starting college at Carroll in fall 2005 and transferring within four years, a fourth transferred to Towson. But the fall 2005 entrants included transfers to 61 other institutions. Transfer destinations with multiple transfers are shown in the table. Destinations with single transfers from Carroll included Arizona State University, Drexel University, East Carolina University, Indiana University, Louisiana State University, Penn State, Temple University, the University of Minnesota, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of Oregon, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia University.
