College to Review Mission

College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo has appointed a Mission and Institutional Goals Review Committee to review the college's mission. The college's mission is expressed in two ways: in a one-sentence Mission Statement, and in a set of Institutional Goals. The Institutional Goals are an elaboration of the mission that specifies its components, facilitating the development of strategic and operational plans and the assessment of mission accomplishment. Together, the Mission Statement and Institutional Goals specify the purposes of the institution, identifying who is to be served, the types of programs offered, and the societal results that are intended. They address stakeholder interests and define the college's niche in the educational marketplace.

The current Mission Statement was adopted in 1996 and re-affirmed every four years, in accord with Maryland law. Dr. Pappalardo ordered the mission review in preparation of development of Compass 2015, the college's upcoming three-year strategic plan, in spring 2012. The Mission Review Committee will present its recommendations to the Planning Advisory Council on November 21, 2011.
