Cybersecurity Students Celebrated for Strong Finish

On August 29, three students in the college’s Cybersecurity program—Justin Doan, David Howell, and Ben Marlatt—were recognized by College President Dr. James D. Ball for their outstanding performance during the 2017 Maryland Community College Cyber Competition hosted at the Germantown campus of Montgomery College on April 7, 2017. In a field of 22 teams, they came in fifth place, a strong finish considering that most of the other college teams were veteran participants and this was Carroll’s first time. Robert Keller, Coordinator of Cyber Technology, served as the team’s coach.

The “capture the flag” competition involved solving a series of timed computer-based puzzles, which require an in-depth understanding of programming and coding.

“This competition highlights the abilities required in the cybersecurity industry and showcases the skills and talents of our students,” said College Cybersecurity Technology Navigator Marlene Titus.
