Now that another semester is drawing to a close, I wish
to share with you reflections on the past year and glimpses into the future.

Several notable events have transpired over the past year at Carroll Community College. I would like to share with you insights into some of our most important accomplishments and projections as to where we are headed as a college.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) reaffirmed Carroll's accreditation, with commendations about our progress in several areas. The college was commended for moving forward with its mission and goals review; for its use of technology; for its sound fiscal planning; and for its positive campus climate, among other areas of note. As we move forward in the coming years, we will be inspired to continue to build on our success and create innovative approaches to best serve our student population.

I would also note the importance of this summer's groundbreaking of the Mount Airy College Center for Health Care Education. Many years of planning came to fruition at the July 25th ceremony, where the presidents of Howard and Frederick Community Colleges joined me in breaking ground for the center that is expected to open next fall.

In the coming months, we will continue to collaborate on development of the credit and non-credit courses to be offered to students who wish to pursue health-related career education at the Mount Airy Center. I am most appreciative of the Board of Trustees, Foundation Board of Directors, students, and the community for their attendance at the groundbreaking.

This year, the college renewed its commitment to completion through its first Commit to Complete fair. Students signed pledge cards reaffirming their intent to complete their degrees before leaving Carroll. I hope that the momentum will continue as community colleges adopt initiatives to address the growing desire that students leave community college with degrees in hand.

Finally, I wish all of you a blessed end of the year, which many of you will celebrate during the upcoming holidays. Thank you for your continued hard work and dedication. I look forward to a prosperous year ahead in fulfilling the mission and the vision of the college.
