The fall semester is drawing to a close and the end of 2012 is quickly approaching. I believe that the faculty and staff at Carroll Community College have many accomplishments of which to be proud.

I become reflective at this time of year when I look back at all that the college has done to help our students persist and achieve academically. This issue of Today offers many stories which illustrate my point.

The story on our new Emergency Medical Services—Paramedic program demonstrates how Carroll offers exemplary training in high-demand fields.

The story on the Mt. Airy College Center for Health Care Education points out how three community colleges have joined together to create wonderful opportunities for students by combining resources in a cost-effective manner.

This issue of Today also includes my strategic initiatives for this year. Last spring, the Planning Advisory Council led a process to develop Compass 2015. This three-year strategic plan identified five broad priorities for the college through June, 2015. Following my approval of Compass 2015, I announced specific initiatives for this fiscal year. My FY2013 strategic initiatives delineate clear guidance for area and office operational plans. Progress on these initiatives will be assessed at the May meeting of the Planning Advisory Council.

Looking ahead to the upcoming year, I am happy to announce that Carroll has a new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Mr. David Bollinger recently assumed the position of Chair following the expiration of Mr. Michael Mason's term. Mr. Bollinger will serve as Chair for the next two years. Mr. David O'Callaghan was selected by the Board as vice-chair.

On another note, I am delighted to announce that Carroll will celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2013.

I would like to express my deepest appreciation to our faculty and staff for their fine work and constant dedication to the well-being of our students. Best wishes for a blessed, enjoyable holiday and for a wonderful New Year!
