Ten Years of Starry Nights

On Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, Carroll Community College will observe the tenth anniversary celebration of Starry Night, its annual signature gala fundraiser to support student scholarships and programmatic initiatives.

Now a premier regional holiday tradition, this year’s event marks a decade of fine food, auctions, entertainment, and philanthropy for long-time supporters of higher education and first-time enthusiasts alike.

The entertainment this year will be Louis Prima, Jr. and the Witnesses, a rousing jazz group with original compositions and familiar tunes that appeal to jazz lovers and music fans of all ages. Led by trumpeter Louis Prima, Jr. the band plays a mix of swing and R&B and has a sound that keeps your toes tapping and a smile on your face.

To date, a decade of Starry Night events has raised over $600,000 for the Carroll Community College Foundation, with over 60 percent of that coming from donors who have contributed every year since the event’s inception in 2006.

What Folks Have to Say

"I am thrilled to witness the Tenth Anniversary of Starry Night and as President of the College, I feel enormously grateful for the support of our community. For ten years, our students have reaped the benefits of the success of Starry Night. I look forward to many more years to come.” Carroll Community College President Dr. James D. Ball

‘‘As a loyal supporter of Starry Night and a past chair of the committee, I am delighted to see how the event has grown in popularity in our community. I am also a graduate of Carroll Community College. When I talk with students, I realize how important financial support is for their success and college completion. I wish to wholeheartedly thank the community for embracing Starry Night the past ten years.” Kelly Hill, president of the Carroll Community College Foundation Board of Directors.

‘‘As a founding member of the Starry Night Committee, I wish to thank our patrons, donors and sponsors for their loyal and generous support. Without them, we could not transform our college into the special venue which has become our signature Starry Night event. As a result of such support, our students feel that the community embraces their ambitions to achieve their educational goals.” David Bollinger of Barnes-Bollinger Insurance Services and chair of the Starry Night Committee.

‘‘Nursing Students have benefitted from Starry Night proceeds with the purchases of high-fidelity simulation equipment that is used to mimic real clinical situations in a safe environment.” Nancy N. Perry, DNP, RN, CNE, Nursing Program Director at Carroll Community College.

‘‘My company provides the theme and decorations for Starry Night. I have the great pleasure of helping to transform the college Great Hall into a magical venue which invites all participants to celebrate the season while helping college students through event proceeds. I am truly proud to be part of the Tenth Anniversary and wish the college much success with Starry Night during this milestone year.” Rene Bonde Shiffler, co-owner, Blossom and Basket Boutique.

‘‘I am the recipient of the Joseph Beaver, Jr. Scholarship. Proceeds from Starry Night, and other events help to make Foundation scholarships possible. I am grateful for the support of the community and I feel fortunate to attend such a wonderful college. I hope the Tenth Anniversary of Starry Night is the best ever!” Zachary Cover, student at Carroll Community College.

‘‘Starry Night holds a special place in my heart and I congratulate the college on the Tenth Anniversary of the event. As a local businessman, I am dedicated to supporting the event because I can see the direct impact that it has on students. In many cases, students are struggling to afford tuition. Event proceeds help with scholarships, program support and equipment. There is no doubt that Starry Night is an extremely worthy endeavor for the future of our community.” Seth Shipley, owner of Shipley’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in Hampstead.
