College Honors President and
CEO of Carroll Lutheran Village

Carroll Community College honored President and CEO of Carroll Lutheran Village Geary K. Milliken on May 23, 2006 for his efforts in providing training for employees and enrichment activities for residents. Milliken was presented with the Distinguished Partner in Lifelong Learning Award.

“Geary Milliken is deeply committed to providing enriching educational opportunities to the residents of Carroll Lutheran Village, and ongoing career and professional development for his employees. Carroll Community College and Carroll Lutheran Village have been engaged as educational partners for over 20 years,” said Vice President for Continuing Education and Training Karen Merkle. “The college has provided personal enrichment courses for the residents. The college has also provided courses with occupational, supervisory, and communications training for staff over the years,” she said.

“Geary Milliken has always been a strong advocate for the college. He, along with other healthcare CEOs in the county, played a key role in securing funding for the construction of the college’s Nursing and Allied Health building,” she said. “Geary tirelessly promotes education and training in the workplace, and lifelong learning for all.”

Milliken was installed as president and CEO of Carroll Lutheran Village, an accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community, in the spring of 1994. Prior to his appointment, he had been in long-term care administration for 20 years in Gettysburg and York, with Lutheran Social Services of Southern Pennsylvania. He is a licensed nursing home administrator in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He has spent over 30 years working in social ministry for the Lutheran church.

Since he became president, Carroll Lutheran Village has grown from assets of $22M to $112M. He has been responsible for the major expansion project that added Diven House for assisted living, Krug Chapel Auditorium, and Friendship Way linkage. He also was responsible for major renovations to the Health Care Center that added a state-of-the-art dementia unit, as well as upgrading rehabilitation and long-term care units.

The current $64M expansion of the Village, known as Wakefield Overlook, has nearly doubled the size of the campus.
