Fall Credit Enrollment Analysis

(November 2016). A comprehensive analysis of fall third-week credit enrollment, including sources of students, retention rates, demographics, placement test results, participation in the FACTS tuition payment plan, high school graduate enrollment rates by high school, programs of study, FTE enrollment by discipline, average class size, and enrollments in online and hybrid courses.

Credit Student Enrollment by Race and Ethnicity

(March 2017). Four-year trends in enrollment by race and ethnicity, including comparisons to county demographics. Also includes enrollment of Carroll County African-American residents in Maryland colleges and universities. Carroll’s market share of African-American undergraduates was 43.3 percent in fall 2015; Towson University was second-most popular, enrolling 6.7 percent.

Spring 2017 Enrollment Report

(March 2017). Credit headcount in spring 2017 was 2,911 students, a decline of 5.4 percent from spring 2016. Declines in students continuing from the fall, and those returning after an interruption in studies, contributed to the overall decline. New students entering in fall terms have declined 30 percent since 2009, and this produces smaller numbers of continuing students in subsequent terms. Fall-to-spring retention rates have remained strong.

Component Yield Model Forecasts for Fall 2017 and Fall 2018

(March 2017). The forecasts from this model are aggregates of forecasts for individual components of the college’s credit enrollment. Forecasts are made for returning students, transfers-in, current-year high school graduates, dual-enrolled students, and other first-time students. The model is useful for interpreting actual enrollment, and has been very accurate in the short term. The model projected credit headcount of 3,368 in fall 2016—actual headcount was 3,362. The model projects fall 2017 headcount to be 3,172.

Market Share Analysis of Carroll County Undergraduates

(August 2017). Each summer, MHEC publishes an Enrollment by Place of Residence report that shows the colleges attended by residents of each jurisdiction in the state. As the report is generated from state reporting files, only enrollments at Maryland colleges are identified. Carroll remains the most popular college for both full-time and part-time undergraduates from Carroll County. However, the college’s shares have declined, reflecting gains in full-time market share by the University of Maryland College Park and gains in part-time market share by the University of Maryland University College.
