Environmental Scanning Begins Compass 2015 Strategic Planning Process

The college will develop its next multi-year strategic plan during the spring. College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo has decided that our next plan will be for the three fiscal years beginning July 1, 2012 and running through June 30, 2015. This three-year plan, Compass 2015, will identify a vision for what we want the college to be in 2015 and identify the strategic priorities necessary to accomplish this vision.

A starting point for strategic planning is to assess where the college is currently, and to identify the internal and external factors that will influence the college within the planning horizon. This assessment stage of planning includes a situation analysis describing the institution's current status and position, an environmental scan to identify external threats and opportunities, and an internal appraisal to identify institutional strengths and weaknesses. Data collected in this process is analyzed in a SWOT (strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats) analysis to determine institutional assets and vulnerabilities, which in turn will guide development of the vision and priorities for 2015.

Dr. Pappalardo will include the entire college community in this planning process, which will be coordinated through the Planning Advisory Council. She will appoint environmental scanning reporters to compile and share data pertinent to the college's future.

In support of the college's environmental scanning efforts, selected data will be published in Today and more will be posted to the college's intranet site. This issue of Today includes population statistics for Carroll County and comparable data for Maryland.
