Williamson Named Early Childhood “Master Leader”

Carroll Community College Early Childhood Education Instructor Carole Williamson has been named a master leader in the field of early care and education by Exchange, an international education publication. The November/December 2015 issue featured several master leaders and their stories.

Williamson’s nomination was reviewed by a panel of highly-respected and experienced educational leaders. Williamson said she believes she was selected because of the strength of her recommendation letters and the variety of projects she has directed with college students on behalf of young children. She has been instrumental in encouraging the development of the Early Childhood Education Club at the college, has mentored students, and has emphasized the importance of community service.

Criteria for the award included leadership in the education world, knowledge of the field, and spirit. Applicants were asked to submit a personal mission statement, resumé, two letters of recommendation and a photograph.

“I cannot remember a time when I did not want to teach,” said Williamson. “I have an absolute love of learning about everything and a desire to tell everyone what I discover. Learning is meant to be shared and there are so many ways to learn. All children have the right to learn in a way that is personal to them. As a teacher and a leader, I create opportunities for discovery.”

Williamson said she was pleasantly surprised by the master leader designation. She believes the recognition validates the work that all instructors do with their students to make a difference in the life of a child. Williamson added, “My ultimate goal is to generate the energy in students to want to go outside their comfort zone, try new things and never stop learning.”

“I want to extend my congratulations to Carole for this most deserved distinction as a master leader,” said College President Dr. James D. Ball. “Carole is part of a group of high-caliber education instructors at the college who are shaping the success of our future generations.”

“I am pleased to see that Carole’s hard work and dedication are recognized,” said Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Janet Ohlemacher. “I can personally attest to the quality of Carole’s instruction and to her passion for the mission of early childhood education.”
