On May 23, 2012, the college held its nineteenth Commencement. I presided over the ceremony with much pride in our students who have completed their degrees.

Over 200 students crossed the stage in their caps and gowns, which was a record number and a wonderful sight. Faculty and staff, and families and friends, showed their pride in our graduates during the ceremony at McDaniel College.

However, Commencement is more than a celebration with accolades from families and friends. It is the denouement of years of hard work, dedication, and unfailing commitment to achieving an associate degree.

Our inspiring Commencement speaker, Delegate Justin Ready, shared his personal story as a 2002 graduate of Carroll. He described his journey towards becoming a state delegate to the Maryland General Assembly, representing Carroll County. He is a role model for graduates and he offered many relevant words of wisdom.

Luke Fisher, an accomplished student who was named one of 20 national winners for the All U.S.A. Academic Team, served as student speaker. He inspired fellow graduates with his reflections of his time at Carroll and his advice to students about their futures.

Mary-Patricia (Trish) DeNardis was the recipient of a scholarship which I personally present to a student whom faculty members have nominated to me. The President's Academic Excellence Award has been presented for 12 years and recognizes outstanding academic accomplishments. I congratulate Trish on this award.

I was impressed with the caliber of our graduates. Many awards and special recognitions were announced, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication our students have demonstrated.

Students frequently tell me that they believe Carroll provides one of the finest quality educations in the state because of the dynamic teaching of the faculty. I thank our faculty for all they have done to support and guide our students on their way to graduation.

Carroll's excellent reputation is far-reaching. I have no doubt that our graduates will find open doors to success. I wish all of our graduates the best as they enter the next chapters of their lives.
