An innovative and collaborative theater project is underway at Carroll Community College in partnership with The Farm Theater Project and two other local community colleges.
The Farm Theater’s second play development program is called The Barnstorming Project.
The Barnstorming Project commissioned a playwright to develop a play with the Maryland Area Community College Performing Arts Collective (MACCPAC) which includes Carroll Community College, Howard Community College, and Prince George’s Community College. The playwright is Christopher Gabriel Nunez.
On Nov. 3, 4, and 5, 2016, faculty from Carroll, Howard, and Prince George’s traveled to New York City to participate in a workshop with Nunez. The play will be performed by all three community colleges during the 2017-18 academic year. The schools will collaborate on each of the three productions, keeping the ensemble together throughout the three shows.
The play, still in development, will be about contemporary topics that are important to college students. Carroll was invited to be part of the project through a networking relationship with the Kennedy Center American Theatre Festival, which considered Carroll a good fit for the endeavor.
