My Carroll Moment

At Carroll Community College, faculty, staff and administrators foster a culture of caring. Outreach to others in times of need and providing support are hallmarks of the college. “My Carroll Moment” is an outlet for employees to share the times when they felt supported, and in turn, they felt appreciated.

Our first story comes from Diane DeAtley, part-time coordinator of the college Food Locker and Student Life Specialist. The Food Locker collects non- perishable goods donated by employees and students to distribute within the college community to those in need—no questions asked.

DeAtley wants to share her reflections this way: “After 38 years as an educator and counselor, I retired from the Maryland State School System last July. I started my part-time position here at Carroll last October. I am the Student Life Specialist. I find this position deeply rewarding because I personally interact with the clients who use the Food Locker.

“It warms my heart to work in such a caring and compassionate college community that truly offers support. When clients speak with me about their food supplies, I am blessed to witness tears, smiles, hugs, and kind expressions of gratitude. I know that not only the clients, but the members of their immediate families are supported through the Food Locker. The biggest reward of my job is the opportunity to serve others. I am proud to be a member of this incredible college community. I want to personally extend my appreciation to all involved.”

Share your “My Carroll Moment” by emailing sblair@carrollcc.edu or calling Sylvia Blair at 410-386-8411. Stories may be printed in Today as space is available.
