During the break between semesters, faculty and staff have the opportunity to refresh, renew, and do long-range planning for the year ahead.

Recently, it was my great pleasure to welcome an organization that values and promotes the professional development of faculty to our campus.

As the story details, the annual
AFACCT (Association of Faculties for the Advancement of Community College Teaching) conference gathered representatives from community colleges around the state to convene at Carroll. The event was a meeting of the minds on the topic of “Proving and Improving Teaching and Learning.” Please read more in the accompanying story.

I want to express how pleased I was to welcome so many fine and esteemed colleagues to Carroll. I am deeply aware how important it is for faculty to expand their awareness of issues and insights outside the classroom, to make them better at what they do. The conference was a rare opportunity to share ideas, best practices, and advice. I applaud the organizers of this very valuable conference.

Finally, I want to say how proud I am of the faculty and staff at Carroll who helped to plan this event, and who prepared and gave presentations. It is clear to me that the teaching methods used at Carroll are an inspiration to our colleagues around the state. The large number of successful students who come through Carroll’s doors is a testament to the quality of our faculty. I know the other community colleges in Maryland can say the same thing about their fine institutions.
