Seventeenth Annual Book Fair on March 7 and 8 to Feature Wide Selection of Titles

Over the past 16 years, the Annual Random House Book Fair at Carroll Community College has become a Carroll County tradition for families and book lovers.

In 2014, the event will be re-named The Penguin Random House Book Fair. It will be held on March 7 and 8, 2014 at the community college. The event is being re-named to reflect the recent merger between the two major publishers.

Penguin Random House combines the print and digital publishing businesses of Penguin and Random House. Employing more than 10,000 people across five continents, Penguin Random House comprises nearly 250 editorially and creatively independent imprints and publishing houses that collectively publish more than 15,000 new titles annually. Its publishing lists include more than 70 Nobel Prize laureates and hundreds of the world’s most widely-read authors.

“The 2014 Penguin Random House Book Fair at Carroll will be even bigger and better because of the wider selection of books that will be available,” said Annette Danek-Akey, senior vice-president of Fulfillment at Penguin Random House. “In fact, there will be ten percent more titles available that day than in past years. We support this event wholeheartedly because we believe in raising funds to help students afford college through scholarships.”

“I want to thank Penguin Random House for sponsoring the Book Fair,” said Carroll President Dr. Faye Pappalardo. “Without Penguin Random House, there would be no Book Fair. We offer our deepest gratitude to them.”

The Penguin Random House Book Fair will feature traditional events and activities such as the Friday night movie kick-off, discounted book sales, children’s activities, a silent auction, and activities for senior citizens.

The Book Fair is known for its large number of volunteers who are responsible for virtually every aspect of the event. In addition to volunteers from Penguin Random House, increasingly students from the college have played a larger role by coordinating signature activities that help make the Book Fair so popular. Participating student groups include the Student Government Organization, the Early Childhood Education Club, the Hill Scholars, and the STEM Club.
