Don Elwell to Head Theater Program

by Diana Scott

Dr. Donald Elwell

Dr. Donald Elwell radiates enthusiasm for his new position as theater instructor and program director for Carroll Community College. "Just the mere idea of coming here was exciting. I'm pleased to be in the position of building a theater program from beginning to end. It's exhilarating to put your stamp on something and, hopefully, have it turn out even better than your previous efforts."

Prior to his arrival at Carroll, Dr. Elwell was an instructor at Monmouth College, Illinois, and director of his own company, the Greylight Theater of Illinois. The Greylight was an educational theater that featured the works of new playwrights.

After beginning his career in Florida, touring and directing shows for musical theater companies, he moved to Los Angeles. While at Citrus College he founded their technical theater program.

At Carroll, he will be teaching THTR 101, Intro-duction to the Theater; THTR 110, Acting; and THTR 125, Theater Practicum. The Practicum is designed to allow students to participate in Carroll's theater productions, either on stage or behind the scenes.

Donald Elwell earned his B.A. in Theater and Speech at Stetson University and his M.A. in Theater at Florida State University. He completed his Ph.D. in Theater at The Union Institute in 1997.
