College Partners with MICPEL to Offer Online Law Courses

For the first time, Carroll Community College and the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers (MICPEL) are partnering to offer continuing legal education (CLE) courses to Maryland lawyers online. The college will make professional education courses available through its web-based Blackboard site, allowing participating lawyers to access high-quality MICPEL programs at any time without being present in a classroom. Courses will utilize MICPEL instructors who are experts in their fields. This benefits Maryland lawyers who must remain current in law practices that are unique to each state.

After completion of each course, which takes an estimated 90 days to complete, participants may request a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Certificate. Courses include Basics of Construction Law, Elder Abuse and Neglect in the Community and in Long-Term Care Facilities, and The ABCs of Special Education Law: Practicing in the Wake of the 2004 IDEA Reauthorization.

Course material is presented in video segments and through case materials and other documents. Video segments were recorded from live presentations.

Marlene Titus, Esq., manager of the Miller Entrepreneurial Institute at Carroll Community College, said, “An attorney’s time is money and online learning provides him or her the ability to take courses and get the materials when it is convenient to the attorney, as opposed to taking at least four hours plus travel time out of their billable day.”

For more information, contact Marlene Titus at 410-386-8012.
