President’s Column
Dr. James D. Ball
President

As I write this column, I become reflective about an appropriate theme for this issue. I believe that theme is one of momentum. As the new academic year starts, it is evident that our faculty, staff and students are committed to developing opportunities in new and innovative directions.

The stories in this issue illustrate this concept of momentum. Our new chair and vice chair of the Board of Trustees will provide guidance and oversight that are so important to realizing the mission of the college.

The appointment of Dr. Jan Ohlemacher to the position of vice president of Academic and Student Affairs illustrates how transition opens new doors and brings new horizons into focus. The student profile in this issue is just one example of how students complete their studies at Carroll and move on to new experiences which propel them forward in their educational endeavors. Finally, the story on the accreditation of the Child Development Center illustrates how Carroll is in constant pursuit of excellence in providing college support services.

Page three lists the college strategic initiatives for the coming academic year. We are advancing the priorities in Compass 2015 and I look forward to our work together as we realize our college strategic initiatives. Not only do we have momentum internally, but we are also moving forward with the community. We regularly engage with employers, the Chamber of Commerce, donors and other friends of the college to maintain the reputation of Carroll as the “gem of the county.”

And most importantly, our students tell us that without a Carroll education, they would not be where they are today, experiencing momentum in their professional and personal lives through the pursuit of higher education. They tell us that the care and attitude of our faculty and staff is a significant factor in their continued success.

Each and every one of us at Carroll Community College plays a vital role in building upon our momentum as a high-quality institution of higher learning. Through your efforts, we help to transform students into more effective learners and contributing citizens. I thank you all for your contributions to our students and to the college.

Dr. James D. Ball
President
