Child Development Center Receives State Accreditation

The Child Development Center and Early Childhood Lab has received accreditation from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

The one-year accreditation process examined all aspects and procedures at the Center, determining that industry standards for excellence in quality early childhood programing were validated. This is the first time the Center has been accredited by MSDE.

“I applaud the Center and its Director Nancy Gregg for the fine work accomplished during the accreditation process,” said Carroll President Dr. James D. Ball. “I believe that the Center offers one of the finest programs for the care and development of young children.”

“MSDE sent me a letter commending the efforts of our teaching teams,” said Gregg. “I am proud of all of those involved in this accomplishment, including the college’s Education Department. Our certificate of accreditation is valid for three years and at that point, a re-accreditation process begins.”

The Child Development Center serves children ages two-and-a-half through five. The Center creates a developmentally-appropriate environment where the youngest learners are nurtured towards becoming life-long learners. Teachers stress the importance of exploration and play while integrating math, science, language, literacy, music, art and motor activities. Emphasis is placed on each child's learning style by an active, hands-on process that builds problem-solving and thinking skills.

The Center also provides laboratory observation for Carroll's Early Childhood Education students, faculty, and staff. The teaching and learning process is based on current knowledge of child development and best practices in early childhood education. Collaboration and innovation are encouraged in all aspects of the program.
