Last fall, Carroll faculty and students joined peers from Maryland community and four-year college s at the first Maryland Collegiate STEM Conference, held at Montgomery College. The two-day conference included a day for student learning opportunities and a day for faculty development. Dr. Raza Khan and Maria Burness were part of the advisory committee which planned the event.
Keynote addresses included “Adventures in STEM: Starting your Journey” and “Undergraduate Research at the Community College: Obstacles and Opportunities.” In addition, the conference provided a platform for students from seven community colleges to present their undergraduate research. Faculty and staff also contributed presentations. Community college students comprised about a third of the 317 participants.
