Physical Therapist Assistant Program Reaccredited

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Carroll Community College has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

CAPTE has over thirty criteria against which PTA programs are measured. A program must remain in compliance with these standards to continue to educate physical therapist assistant students. Only students who have graduated from accredited programs may take the national licensure examination, a requirement for licensure in any state.

"I am exceedingly pleased that Carroll has proven that its PTA program is rigorous and deserving of reaccreditation," said College President Dr. Faye Pappalardo.

According to Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program Sharon Reid, it is typical for a program to receive notice of deficits, which are areas for improvement that require progress reports. In over 15 years of CAPTE accreditation, Carroll was the first program that received no deficiencies.

"This means that out of the over 400 programs accredited by CAPTE in the U.S., Canada and Scotland, we were the only continuing program to achieve this level. Carroll's PTA program is offering the highest quality PTA education in the country," said Reid.

Reid continued, "The program faculty and the administration have now received recognition for all their efforts over the past 10 years to raise the bar for our PTA program and to provide our students with the best educational experience we can."

Carroll's PTA program was first accredited in 1996. The PTA program is now reaccredited until 2021.
