Student Shares Life of African Elephants through Photography

The college’s Great Hall was filled with images of Africa and its elephants during October and November, showcasing the photography of Rebecca Walter, a concurrent student enrolled at Carroll Community College while a senior at Francis Scott Key high school.

“Rebecca Walter’s photographs are both fine art and journal,” said Maggie Ball, art director at the college. “’In the Field: Rebecca’s Africa’ documents her affection for Africa, its people, its culture, and the plight of the endangered elephants she observes while living in the bush. She is a young woman with experience and aesthetic far beyond her years as revealed by the power of her images.”

Walter has traveled to Kenya with her family since 1996, spending months on safari. “My photography has given me a way of expressing myself and sharing my experiences, in a way nothing else will ever be able to,” Walter said. “I hope that people might be able to see through my photographs how I see Africa and its elephants.”
