Psi Beta Chapter Wins National Service Award

The college’s student chapter of the national Psi Beta psychology honor society has received an award for community service projects completed between fall 2006 and spring 2007.

The Psi Beta/Carol Tracy Community Service Award was presented on August 18 at the 2007 American Psychological Association national convention in San Francisco. The award is named after Carol Tracy, Psi Beta retired executive director.

Community service projects completed by the student chapter included a food drive; collection of stuffed bears for the Carroll Hospice Center; an Adopt-a-Family program; a children’s book drive; a clothing drive; and a fundraising walk.

“I am proud of this accomplishment by our students in the Psi Beta honor society,” said President Dr. Faye Pappalardo. “I am impressed with their dedication and their emphasis on service to our community.”

Laura J. Bittner, faculty advisor to Psi Beta at Carroll, said, “I am pleased that our students chose to engage their time and efforts in activities that provide assistance to others. The satisfaction and pride that students feel in helping others is very consistent with the goals of psychology. This was an altruistic learning experience.”
